Our school is a private bilingual school. There are three categories of school here (or that I know of): international, bilingual, and local (also in order of highest cost to lowest cost). Their school is as close to int'l-type school as you can get without being int'l. In fact we met Ella's teaching assistant the other day who is Chinese but said, they're not allowed to speak Chinese to the kids - they must use English (since our kids are in the English track). The kids do have 1 hr of Chinese class a day as part of their curriculum too and in there, they will be asked to speak Chinese. School is from 8am-3:15p and they provide lunch - you can only bring a lunch if you have dietary restrictions. That will hit Emily the hardest as she had a packed lunch through most of her years at Hill. She is not a picky eater but for some reason never wanted cafeteria food.
Our 'official' 1st day of school family photo. (Our shiny new mailbox next to us is waiting for letters!) ;*)
Walking to school . . . met a neighbor who was walking his kid (kid was further behind with his mom).
You can only see some of the madness at drop off. Parents are not allowed within the gates of the school. (Gonna have to join the PTA or something so I can get my little booty in the door). I could tell the kids were more apprehensive when they saw the huge crowd of people. I had to sort of shoo them in and felt a little-teary eyed for them but they walked in together as a team ... all that "bonding" those first two weeks we were here with nothing but suitcases and no toys, was good for something. :)
All in all - not a bad start. It's quite peaceful at home now and maybe I can knock out more boxes today.
