Fireworks

In October, it was the National Holiday.  Sort of equivalent to Independence Day in the US.  And we thought our (US) fireworks were cool and pretty . . . here that are spectacular.  People here use fireworks for any celebration - birthday, grand opening of a store, getting an 'A' in Science, whatever.  For holiday, the fireworks motto in China is: "the bigger, the louder, the better" and "safety-shmafety - who cares?  (see first part of motto)".  My brother came in to visit and we took him to see the fireworks.  You can pay to go into the park and see it up close but we chose to be cheap and watch for free on the side streets of the park with the 6 other million who were cheap too.  :*(

This is "shrapnel" that fell on my brother from the fireworks.  Good thing we did not pay to get closer to the action . . . I think we would've had our hair singed.

This was one of two amazing fireworks.  A dove/bird.  The best one was a flower (but I missed the picture because I was staring like an idiot with my mouth open).   As the firework shot up it lit up green as the stem of a flower and then leaves lit up on each side and finally the last to light was the flower part - like it was blooming.  Amazing!

It's crazy crowded to watch fireworks during that time but worth it!
