Down on the farm...

Just about every morning we eat eggs in some form - scrambled, fried, hard boiled.  There are no US convenience foods like L'eggo waffles (I have to make them), muffins, or a sausage & egg burrito.  We typically buy organic eggs or something with pictures on the box that shows it might be healthier.  :*)  A friend of mine buys her eggs online (many expat grocery stores are online and deliver) and mentioned that the site has some great organic eggs.  She did caution that you have to break the eggs in a separate bowl.  Uh, ok why?  Apparently she cracked one once and a baby chicken was inside.  This story came to mind this morning as I cracked an egg in the pan and my 7 year old said, "Look mommy the egg is breathing!" My heart practically stopped!!  Luckily it was just the egg whites moving up and down and sort of bubbling up.

It's my 7-yr old who constantly makes me wonder why I am not vegetarian.  The idea of going to the local wet market, and choosing which live chicken you want to have for dinner, just really makes me want to be vegetarian.  I'm a wuss.  I shamelessly like to just push the thought out of my mind of where the meat originated but my daughter loves to bring me back to reality.  The other day I was preparing a whole chicken for roasting (bought from an expat store where they nicely package it just like the States).  She's watching me and says, "I wonder which end is where the head would be?" Hmm, plain rice sounds divine now . . .

I don't have many pictures to post . . . my iPhone got lost/stolen a couple weeks ago.  I didn't lose too many pictures but there were some.  Just be glad I didn't devote a whole entry describing my pathetic withdrawal symptoms and my depression over losing that darn expensive gadget.  I have finally come out of that post-mortem loss and am cruising along with my temporary Android phone - not my favorite but it works.  Anyway, just a random pic today - this is the littlest, showing off the macaroon she got for free.  The local staff here (at stores, restaurants, etc), adore her and quite often she gets lots of free stuff.  The movie theater staff gave her pencils and erasers, the fruit vendor always gives her a piece of fruit, on Halloween she got M&Ms from a store that told my bigger kids they had no more candy to give out but she shows up and wha-LA - a precious bag of M&Ms appears!  (and she didn't even have a costume on)
