Shrimp & Maroon 5

So the other day I went to the wet market (like a farmer's market) to buy some veggies and such. I ventured into the area with the fish and chicken. This was "monumental" because I don't think I've stepped into that area since we arrived in Shanghai and I saw the live chicken get slaughtered - over a year! So I went looking for shrimp. Hmmm, no frozen shrimp and no shrimp sitting on top of ice like at HEB. The only shrimp available was live swimming ones. I bit the bullet and bought some - surely by the time I get home, they'll be dead and it won't be an issue for me. The whole walk home, they were jumping in the bag and then at home, they were popping out of the bag like popcorn. Even my ayi was a bit grossed out when I asked her to take the shells off and get rid of the heads. I was grossed out asking her! Finally we both decided to wait and see if they stopped jumping. Eventually they did and we were able to handle them without being weirded out but I think the next time I'll travel farther to go get the non-fresh ones.

Yesterday I went to the Maroon 5 concert here. They came to the Mercedes-Benz Arena. It was a great concert! The odd part though was that if you went to the M5 website, they did not show a Shanghai stop. Some expat areas advertised the concert but otherwise it was low key around the city. Some my friends said it might be because the government doesn't really allow it/them but I really don't know why or understand the whole thing. They sold some t-shirts inside the arena but they did not have any concert locations (you know where it shows all their stops) on the shirt, just the name of one of their songs and the band name on the shirt. So weird. Then even outside the arena they sold probably fake shirts and they were also minimal. Of course only in China do they sell fake shirts outside the arena.

As always a couple pictures . . .

First, a urinal with....yes, ice cubes. I can't get a stinkin ice cube in my drink yet there's plenty to put in a urinal for some reason . . . not that I want ice any more . . .

Second pic is just for fun . . . I think I have been looking for nail polish remover for like 6 months off and on and I finally found some! I felt like I had found gold all day! It's the little things that thrill us...
